blog birthday giveaway!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

today i have had this blog for one year!! actually it feels like much longer - but in a good way! can hardly remember what it was like not having a blog. anyway it’s been a lot of fun and very inspirational to “meet” so many great people in this space and i’m very grateful for all the comments and the interest you have taken in my blog. thank you so much!

well i thought i would do a small giveaway to celebrate the occasion. leave a comment to take part and next tuesday i will draw a winner. i’m giving away three yashica prints selected especially for the winner and also a blog birthday version of the panda print which is currently exhibited in brinja’s shop. size A4.

- kiwi: thanks kiwi : ) the artist is called karoline h. larsen, but this one is done as a collaboration under the name collective string project. you can read more here. a great week to you also!
- parisa mahmoudi: me too - those are the best exhibitions. happy to know you liked the photos : )
- ai: it was a bit of a challenge to walk over and under the strings but was a experience and it made people interact. i see your point about the installation being a good ice breaker on a first date : )
- epe: thanks epe!
- kinako: yeah i have been going to quite a lot of art exhibitions lately - must try and keep that up! really is a nice thing to do on a day off. hope you got to see some art!
- nathalie: thanks and yes, very simple but effective installation.
- chelsea: yeah pretty nice : ) i’m not complaining
- anairam: you are so right about that, didn’t think about that being in there but is is so james bond laser beam like : ) or maybe it was oceans 11 they had to do that…or more likely a whole range of action movies ; )
- anna: it really was a nice surprise that you had to participate with the installation…i’m guessing that now it will probably be a lot more elaborated and harder to walk through as people have been hanging up more string. about the camera, strange that you have the same problem only opposite…i think i just need to stop dropping my camera, can’t be good..
- ida: i remember those kinds of scavenger hunts too! and yes, not that fun to clean up afterwards : )

collective strings

Friday, June 26th, 2009

the installation called collective strings invited the viewer to participate in expanding and eloborating the work. i liked how this work forced you to move around in awkward positions in order to get from one room to another, and the strings made you very conscious about space and volume. nice.

have a great weekend everyone!

more from charlottenborg opening

Friday, June 26th, 2009

the sign says: inbetween white cubes

more photos from the opening at charlottenborg i showed you some pictures from last week. the exhibition is called works at work and the common feature in all of the works was that they all required the viewer’s active participation. as for instance the installation collective strings that i’m going to show you in the next post.

- kristi: thanks kristi! yeah a garden would be wonderful, handeling plants is one of the most relaxing things there is
- anna: yay! closeups! it’s weird sometimes i really find my camera taking very unsharp photos but when it comes to close ups it really performs well.
- rynke: thank you, i like that first one also.

and now for something completely different

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

photos i took in my mother’s garden sunday evening. i like the light and depth you can get in flower photos taken when the sun is just about to disappear. i wish i had a garden…

- epe: you did? yeah i guess this exhibition gets quite a lot of attention in the medias, thanks!
- anairam: i liked those wooden men also, there was a lot of humour in them. it does make it more interesting i think seeing art in open spaces, allthough i was a bit frustrated that there was so many people really made it hard to actually see the scuptures at times. happy to know you like my project! i hope i will get some more drawings done soon.
- anna: yeah! it was the biggest outdoor exhibition i have ever seen! the second one says ” racism is natural - democracy is artificial”
- kinako: thank you kinako! hopefully more bird drawings to come soon : )
- kiwi: thanks - i really did, there should be more outdoor exhibitions!
- maria: that truely was a great saturday and i can only agree homemade bread is the best there is!
- paula: thanks paula, sounds intereting with those exhibitions in palma you mentioned, the beach is a very good place for exhibitions i think, didn’t really think about it before, but there’s so many ways of using the landscape and water surface and the sand makes a good and calm background to the art pieces.
- maike: i like art that has volume and that claim a certain space, but i did have trouble connecting with these sculptures because of all the guests at the exhibition…but i guess it is also because i have become so used to see art in white cubes and then it is hard not to be distracted from other elements outside. i have to practise : ) the culture camping installation really was a great experience, very simple idea but it worked so well!

sculpture by the sea

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

sunday i went to see the exhibition sculpture by the sea with my parents. we tried to get there early as we had heard about the popularity of this exhibition but when we got there by eleven (not very early) it was already rather crowded along the coastline of aarhus, where the sculptures were exhibited. it’s a whole different experience i think, seeing sculptures out in the open - but a good one! if you are wondering where all the people are in these photos, i chose the ones with the least people and most sculpture in them.

sketches for a new drawing project

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

the last couple of days i have been thinking about a new drawing project. quite a few people have been asking me why i don’t try and sell some of my drawings in the form af postcards and i thought - why not give it a go! i will make a series of 10 bird illustrations - postcard size - and then take it from there… i’ll keep you posted about the progress.

note: a lovely blog i discovered recently - ida - she takes the most beautiful yashica photos!

yesterday

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

these photos were all taken yesterday, which was the most cozy and relaxing day - my mother and i were home alone and spent the day looking at the garden, baking bread, eating great lunch, walking in the forest looking for mushrooms and doing a bit of shopping. later we watched one of my favorite films sideways have you seen it? hope your saturday was great also!

culture camping

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

thursday i went to the opening of the exhibition works at work or in danish værker der virker at charlottenborg. there was some very interesting pieces and in particular i was fascinated by an installation called culture camping by the danish art group bosch & fjord. according to the museum’s information you can book a night at the museum sleeping in one of the beds of this fantastic art installation. as you can see people at the opening fully embraced the concept and would lay down and stare up into the grid of strings hanging from the ceiling.

i will show you more photos from the exhibition the coming days and also pictures from my stay at my parents place. until now it has been all about good food, baking, walking, napping and also a little bit of shopping.

replies to “weekword”

- cissi: thank you - yeah i thought so too, think it was because the window to the seal pool was dirty.
- anairam: thanks, happy you like it! it is more or less summer here, sunny but also windy and rainy sometimes - changing, that’s okay!

replies to “neighbour walk”

- kristina: velbekom : )
- nathalie: you do? yeah brick houses are so nice i think, hope the bread turned out delicious!
cissi: yep, it is, the streets sourrounding the street i live in are all similar so you really get the feel of a neighbourhood.
- rynke: yes they are! such nice atmosphere with bricks. about sleep, you described the problem very accurate - if you think about falling asleep, it just becomes impossible. hope the weekend brought you good rest!
- jenna: thanks jenna, i really like that cute bicycle too : )
- ida: hello again ida and thanks! glad to know you like them - i know what you mean about danish surnames when abroad, it just sounds more exotic when you are outside scandinavia : ) my last surname is hansen so i also have a common name.
- louise: thanks louise, it was a pleasure showing you around : )
- peggy: yes i never new i needen one until now - but very essential. i will definetely try and experiment with different types of flour additions. thanks for the tip!
- gracia: thanks, it’s almost unnoticable that reflection, you have a good eye!
- epe: thank you!

weekword

Friday, June 19th, 2009

this weeks weekword SILENCE was chosen by jenna. my interpretation is a photo i took in copenhagen zoo some years ago. it’s one of my favorite photos from the time when i took analogue b/w photos. to me underwater photos have a distinct silence and timelessness about them that i really like…so that’s why i felt like showing you this photo even though it’s and old one. see the other participants on jenna’s blog. have a great weekend everyone! i’ll reply to your comments tomorrow - now sleep.

a neighbourhood walk

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

someone’s first bike

here lives 3 jensen’s, 1 andersen, 1 nielsen and a petersen…i sense a pattern

pictures from a walk around our neighbourhood…i’m not sure if they represent it well. i really like the area of mostly red brick houses with small variations in the decorations. i’m very tired tonight and will try to go to bed early. you see the problem is that when i stay up too late i have to hurry up falling asleep and it really isn’t working for me…silly, silly.

replies to “he who seeks”

- rynke: yeah who would have known, i didn’t either : )
- tiny red: it was a rather happy monday, thanks. : )
- anna: me too, allthough before i didn’t really get the point and just thought they very extra heavy pots - no advantages, but this baking perspective has made me like them!
- nathalie: i kind of like it too…allthough it is quite rusty. sounds exiting with your bread baking, i was going to make some tonight but am too tired - tomorrow! i look forward to hear about the result
- chelsea: yes, indeed lifetime….maybe this pot is already older than me !?
- neece: hello neece, thanks for commenting. you should try it - really is a great technique with this dutch oven.
- meggie: hi meggie : ) your welcome and thanks for the compliments to my blog!
- hanna: thanks! i really like wooden floors too!
- kristi: thanks, i don’t think the man in the thrift store really understood why i would buy an ugly old pot like that but he was probably very happy to get rid of it. : ) and you’re right - she who seeks finds, at least i did. thanks for the maintenance tip!
