towers

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

towers of books have been scattered all over our livingroom this weekend. now a new three-section bookshelf is in place and all the books have found their appropriate place to rest. brinja inspired me to display some old biscuit tins on the shelves as well.

bottom drawer treasures

Friday, July 31st, 2009

ending the week with some pictures from three womens magazines i found in my bottom drawer. not sure how i got them but what stylish and elegant women! - not to mention the little boy in his navy style outfit. they are all from the 50s and two of the magazine brands are still published today. happy weekend everybody!

- nathalie: yeah you are absolutely right - they have the distance of one wing between them : ) it seems like bicycle theft is very very common in any major city - but it’s such a shame! a happy weekend to you too.
- irene: hello irene! thanks for your comment! so nice to hear from new readers : )
- kristi: hi kristi and thanks, glad to know you like the photos! i hope to find myself a new bike very soon, as i feel almost legless without one : )
- epe: thanks! i like that second one the best also.
- parisa mahmoudi: thank you parisa : )
- alexandra hedberg: well actually i have more than two ; ) but two new ones, i really like the texture and warm color tones of analogue photos. i’m considering to get a good photo scanner, so i can bring the cost down a little bit.
- ulrika: hi ulrika, thanks for your kind words! happy to know you like my blog!
- alice: yeah, it really is annoying when your means of transportation vanishes…luckily i could borrow one from NE’s sister. sorry to hear you tried to visit during the server breakdown - i’m really exited about these new cameras. think i will exersice them this coming sunday!
- sigga: i lige måde : )
- thereza: i know! two! happy you liked the snail mail! but what a shame with the bend on the print…hope it’s not too bad. NE says thanks for the birthday wishes : )

portraits of people i never knew

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

when my mother and her siblings were looking through my grandparents things they found these old photo albums with pictures of people none of them knew. they must have been people that my grandparents knew or distant relatives…only i don’t understand why the pictures look as old as they do…anyway it is so fascinating to look at these family portraits, wedding portraits, school photos etc. of people that i never knew and never will know. they have such presence and personality in the photos that you can’t help but think about what lives they had and what they did….i specifically like the very serious looking priest, the little girl in the family portrait and the school photo where the boy is reluctant towards sitting next to the girl. another fascinating thing is the various fake backgrounds they are placed against. mostly a romatic and aristocratic looking background with palms, columns and high ceilings or a beautiful forest setting.

maps

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

i have a small collection of old maps that i pull out of my drawer from time to time to look at. i like maps for their patterns created by roads, rivers and country borders and less for their practical purpose.

birds and horses and everything inbetween

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

i have always had a thing for old book illustrations and especially botanic and zoological ones. but i don’t buy as many now as i used to, as i really don’t have the space needed…still find them very appealing though.

kalar

a cartoon from the 50s, when gender roles were more clearly defined. I bought a stack of these action packed cartoons a while ago, but i have wanted to share them ever since. they portray white men who kill dangerous wild animals and rescue ladies in the jungle. great stuff!
